Yogi’s Corner

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

Hello! I is Yogi, I is a Border Terrier, globetrotter, yoghurtpot connoisseur, and passionate bouncer.
I come from the Poplar Kennels in Chatteris, where Janet handraised me. My proper name is Basatopa Winter Anthem, but Bisa and Ian thought that’s a mouthful to shout across the common in Cambridge where I grew up, so I was named Yogi after Yogi Bear but in my new home in Meerbusch in Germany, people call me “Jogi our Bundestrainer” (national football coach). That is fine with me as I love footboll.

I do usually not blog but I is on twitter (Yogi_BT) with my lovely pawpals and humin friends.
I is making exception now as I had some bissy times with Bisa and Ian and even #flatmarley!

So here are the adventures in my new home country:

I live with Bisa but my other humin, Ian, is still living in England, now in Ely, they have nice café by river that allows dogs!
He is coming for visits once a month until some time we will be reunited for good!

So when he came over last weekend we decided to take him for a boat trip in Düsseldorf to see the sights:
First we had a big breakfast though with #flatmarley.
having breakfast with #flatmarley and Ian on our terrace
And before we could go on the boat we had a cool drink by the river.

Some of the sights we saw:

a big fun fair in Oberkassel

the Düsseldorf Promenade, I has marked it in many places!

The Gehry buildings

This is my Rhine beach viewed from the boat

And here is me with Bisa

and in the garden I had some fruity refreshments from the red currant bush

So now there we are. Soon Bisa will start her new job. Life is good! So will have snooze now… just after getting Bisa to play with me with my doughnut.

*Nose licks* for all
Yours Yogi

Woes and happiness…

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

…are often close neighbours. As much joy as we get from Yogi, he unfortunately has been causing us some serious worry recently.

First time last week on Friday and then again yesterday he displayed some scary signs. He would suddenlly have spastic fits, his legs would be all over the place and he would make mad fearful dashes around mixed with whining, panting and shivering. We had no idea what it could be. First time I went to the 24 hour vet, not recommendable as it costs an absolute fortune but they couldn’t help. Yesterday I managed to still go to my usual vet and they said we would have to do further blood tests. There are two possiblities that look likely, I hope it’s the first rather than the latter. It could be hypoglycemia, which is when the dog has too low suger levels, so it’s like diabetes. This isn’t good but can be dealt with fairly easily it seems. The other option would be liver shunt, which would be much worse and require an operation to close the artery that passes the toxic blood around the liver into the system.

And despite best efforts to insure the little fellow, he managed to get this all in the inbetween time. So although the 24 vet bill should be mainly covered by his initial puppy insurance that his breeder set up for the first 4 weeks, any further treatment he needs for this we have to cough up, as I arranged him to be covered by a different insurance a week before his other one ran out and the problem occured again in the one week inbetween where his last one has expired and the new one doesn’t cover him yet as they have this silly 14 day rule. Meaning in the first 2 weeks of him being insured he isn’t covered for any illness, injury and whatever and of course whatever this turns out to be it will be treated as a pre-existing condition and they won’t pay a penny towards his treatment.

Gladly, he recovers fairly quickly after a few hours and I personally think it’s likely to be the hypoglycemia. He hasn’t eaten all his breakfast and lunch and I then stupidly went for a walk to pick Ian up before feeding him and he displayed this right after we got home.

Anyway, whatever it is, we love him so much and won’t give up on him, although it will hurt financially.

On the positive side, he slept in the bed between us all night feeling all cosy and secure and we went for a fantastic walk at Wimpole Hall. He thoroughly enjoyed playing with a Schnauzer - off lead for the first time and walked wonderfully next to us not in the slightest interested in running off too far. We fed him of course right away when we got back to the car and I just gave him some canned Hill’s food when we got home to ensure he is topping up his calories. He is currently snoozing happily on the sofa ignoring the Rugby on the telly and the mad Irish man next to him who randomly shouts at the screen.

I am off to the shops now to get something nice for us to eat and to buy a bin for Yogi’s bagged poo. Joy!

Hoooolidayyy!

Well it’s still a while to go, but in Summer we are going to the Lizard in Cornwall for a week. We have just booked a lovely cottage on a farm near the costal path by Coverack. I have never been to Cornwall and always wanted to go, so I am very exited to go eventually.

And the best of all, this will be our first holiday with Yogi! I can already see us go on lovley walks along the coast and as the beaches are dog friendly, to see him brave the waves… maybe.

We have also had a bit of a breakthrough regarding toilet training, no indoor accidents at all today, he goes to the door whenever he needs to do his business, what a great, clever boy! So fingers crossed the worst is over regarding this matter. Went all rather painless.

Now we have to get over our own issues with leaving him in his crate (mainly Ian). It’s quite hearbreaking, but it’s only for some hours at a time, I go home for an hour over lunch and he does actually sleep most of the day even if we are here. He then get’s active when we are home in the afternoon, so all is good really.

Can’t wait for tomorrow as he can be taken out for the first time. From having taken him out on walks in my arms, he is quite scared of the big outdoors still, but I am sure he will eventually love it. In any case, it will be lovely to see him explore his surroundings a bit and take him to the pub. Horray! :o )

All good

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Yogi had his second injection and microchip, brave little guy didn’t make a sound. Next week he can then explore the rest of the world. Oh what fun to have. He’s also grown and gained 1kg!

On other matters, I have nasty backpain from travelling to paris, which was great, but a bit difficult with the pain.

Stayed at the Ibis Hotel Cambronne, which was great, yes room is small, but apparently they are in Paris, but it was clean, the bed comfy and the bathroom had a great shower. The bar staff was nice too. and it’s very central around the corner from the Eiffel Tower.

Loved the Marais quarter, so unusual and vibrant and been to Notre Dame, which well is another famous church I’ve been to, but not the nicest. Esp. as it was brimming with people that have no respect for being in a church. And that was while sunday service was going on.
Disgraceful, and I am not that religious, but it really annoys me.

Ok, must shoot.

Best wishes
Sabine

First trips

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Yogi has been settling in quickly, but yesterday was his first vet visit and we had to go by the office and to the pet shop, so he was up for a big adventure.

This involved me lugging his crate to the car and back (thank God for elevators!). He was happy at the vets, just for saying hello and weighing. He did very well.

We then said hello at the office, everyone seemed to love him and he is a friendly chap so let everyone cuddle him happily. Later in the evening we went to Pets at Home to get some more puppy paraphenalia. He now has a puppy collar and lead and his own personal tag with his name and my number in case he gets lost.
Microchipping will be done together with his second vaccination a bit later.

We let him out of the crate to walk into the flat when we got back and it was brilliant. He loved being home, prancing around like he’s boss all cocky and full of confidence now he was back on known ground. He also loved his new toys, esp. a little tennis ball and his puppy kong. When he plays he bounces like Pierre the Skunk, he is just too funny to watch. :o )

I will post some more pics this evening.

Have a good day!

Yogi is home

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

He has settled in incredibly fast I think, immediately taking to his dog bed and even explored the crate all on his own. He eat after about an hour and has peed outside three times and only once indoors and that was partially my fault. He is currently having his third snooze of the day. We are still waiting for him to do his poo, it’s due but despite much motivation, he doesn’t show any interest in relieving himself. I just hope that if he eventually does it, it’ll be outside.

Here are also some first pics.

He is playing and happy, so I think this is the beginning of a wonderful friendship. :o )

Paris

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Beginning of February I will be attending the World Dyslexia Forum in Paris! Very exciting, it’s taking place at the UNESCO Paris, so that will be interesting in itself, but I am really looking forward to this. I always enjoy trade shows and events as it gives you the opportunity to meet people and learn new things. And I still have lots to learn about dyslexia. My company Iansyst will be exhibiting there, my colleague Sharon and I will be (wo)manning the stand. I am sure we’ll have lots of fun.
After the event is over on Friday 5th, Ian will be joining me in Paris and we will have a romantic break in the city of love. Sorry, just had to turn up the cheese factor here.
Can’t wait to stroll around, sit in bistros and look at beautiful things. Hope to get to spend some time at the Musee D’Orsay, been there once before and didn’t have enough time. It’s wonderful as far as museums go!

Regarding travel plans, we will be looking to find a cottage in Cornwall this summer with Yogi. There will be updates on this. Seen some beautiful ones yesterday online, have to get back to that search with Ian sometime soon, to sort this out.

Ok my wrists start aching, I better stop writing for today.

Goodnight
Bisa

welcome to my crazy world

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Hello everyone, well if there is anyone out there that bothers to read this.

I am a bad blogger, I have tried before, and I am not writing everyday, but I vow to better myself here and start afresh. Still not going to be updating this every day I think, but we’ll see.

Currently there is one thing that dominates my thoughts, and that that is the arrival of Yogi.

No Yogi is not some spritual Indian guru, he is a little Border Terrier puppy and we will pick him up from the breeder coming Sunday.
Basatopa's Yogi

I have a distinct feeling that he will be featuring here quite a bit. So watch out for pics and stories of toilet training and his first steps in his new world.

Otherwise I just try to get by with work and at home.

So watch this space.
